Schweitzer Garten

Schweitzer Garte, by Claudia Pilsl

This piece made in 2005 shows the reflection of the Museum of the 20st century in Vienna in the pond situated in the surrounding park called Schweitzer Garten. At the time the footage was taken, the museum was closed and its future uncertain. What attracted me to this building was the parallels between its name referencing another century and its current redundant and defunct state. I was particularly drawn to this mediation of the building - the modernist architecture reflected on a water surface - as it partly illustrates the idea of liquidity in media theory.

Length: 1’18”

2018 the museum reopened as Belvedere 21 to be a harbour once more for contemporary and modern art.

The piece was shown as part of the Liverpool Biennal Programme (2006) at Projection Gallery and in Schweitzer Garten (projection programme)at The Collection in Lincoln.
