Palais Liechtenstein

palais liechtenstein, Claudia Pilsl

This work is part of a series based on the Palais Liechtenstein in Vienna. The Palais Liechtenstein is a 18th century baroque town chateau with an abundance of oak panelling and marble and was temporary used to house the collection of the Austrian Ludwig Foundation (1979 to November 2000). I chose this museum not for the quality of its building but because I needed to explore when contemporary art is presented in an anachronistic setting.

The whole body of work made between 2000 - 2001 was shown at Werner Klein gallery in Cologne, at Fotogalerie Wien and in the survey exhibition Zwischenräume at Städtische Galerie im Bürgerhaus Neunkirchen. The work is documented in the catalogue Zwischenräume.  The text by Nicole Nix published in the catalogue and the text by Roy Exley published in the Fotogalerie Wien booklet can be found in the section word.
